Illustration, not a photograph.

RubixBuddy is an iOS app written in SwiftUI. It reads a 3×3 Rubik's cube with the camera, lets you check and correct the detected state, and shows the solution step by step with AR arrows (ARKit and RealityKit).

Status: a work in progress, not on the App Store.

No screenshots and no store link yet; the repo is private.

How it works

Scan: the six faces are captured one after another in a fixed order with the camera. Check: in a preview you can correct detected colours with a tap; the app checks that each colour appears nine times and that the centre pieces match. Solve: a solver using the beginner method (layer by layer: white cross, white corners, middle layer, yellow layer) generates the moves, and the app shows them one at a time.

The algorithms are hand-written; there is no external cube library.

Honest status

Colour detection depends on the light, which is why the preview lets you correct colours. The AR arrows show the turning direction of the current move, not the exact geometry of the real cube. The solver uses a beginner method, not an optimised speedcubing solver. Camera and AR need a real device, and the project requires a very recent iOS version.
